Is AI making communication skills less important?

In my business, I increasingly get asked “If AI can now write my emails, proposals and reports… are communication skills becoming less important?"

I actually think the opposite is happening.  AI can help structure your thinking, draft your content, analyse information and accelerate your research.

But it can’t replace the things that matter most in real conversations.  Reading the room.  Sensing hesitation.  Hearing concern or excitement behind someone’s words.  Or showing genuine curiosity.

These are deeply human skills.  They are what builds trust.  And as AI generates more polished content, I believe people are increasingly wanting authenticity.  Real conversations; real thinking; real connection.

Because when decisions matter, people don’t just buy ideas.   They buy confidence in the person behind them.

AI may generate content, but only humans generate trust.
